The Bixby Rotary Club is pleased to announce they will be sponsoring Ville, a young man from Finland, as an exchange student for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.  17 year old Ville enjoys playing sports, including soccer, hockey and skiing as well as listening to music and watching movies.  In school, he especially likes math, physical education, physics and chemistry.  He lives in the city of Lahti, Finland with his parents and older sister. While attending Bixby High School he hopes to make new friends and learn about the culture of the United States.  His primary language is Finnish but he has studied English for 10 years. Ville will be living with 3 different families in the Bixby school district during the school year.  He will spend 3 months with each family so he can gain from a variety of experiences while in Bixby. The host families also will be enriched as they open their home to a student from another culture. Many lifelong friendships are formed through the exchange program. The Rotary Youth Exchange is the oldest program of its kind and takes pride in selecting students who are articulate, excel in school and demonstrate leadership in their communities.
The Rotary Club invites anyone interested in being a host for Ville or wishing to learn more information about the exchange program, to attend a meeting on April 25, 2017 at 6:00pm in the classroom of Dewayne Patterson at, Bixby High School. Membership in Rotary is not required to become a host family.  Families with or without children are encouraged to attend and consider becoming a host family.
