Description
Everyone 16* and older is encouraged to donate. Each blood donor will receive the choice of a free University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University OBI blood donor T-shirt and a chance to win a pair of tickets to the 2014 Bedlam football game.**
Car Show admission is free to view 600 plus antique and classic autos. Donors are invited to contribute a few non-perishable food items to the church’s Ministry Center and enjoy tasty grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixins’.
“Someone needs blood every two seconds,” said John Armitage, M.D., president and CEO of Oklahoma Blood Institute. “That is why we are asking everyone to rally their community spirit through blood donation along with their Oklahoma school pride this football season.”
Oklahoma Blood Institute exclusively provides every drop of blood needed by patients in the Saint Francis Health System, Cancer Treatment Center, Tulsa Spine and Specialty Hospital, and Tulsa Life Flight in the Tulsa area. Some 150 other medical facilities across the state rely solely on OBI donors to provide life-saving blood for their patients.
Because there is no substitute for blood, the supply must constantly be renewed. All blood types are needed, but those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. According to the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), only nine in one hundred people in the U.S. have this blood type. However, O-negative blood can be used for any patient. It is especially needed in emergency situations when a patient’s blood type has not yet been determined.
Blood can be given every 56 days. To find out more or make an appointment to donate, call 877-340-8777 or schedule online at www.obi.org.
