Michele Scott, President of Tulsa Chapter Topic: Voice Coaching Rena Cook is Professor Emeritus in the University of Oklahoma’s Helmerich School of Drama where she taught voice, speech and dialects. She is also the founder of Vocal Authority, a training and development business created to serve corporate clients, including politicians, attorneys and CEOs who want to use their voice in more commanding and authentic ways. She is also a distinguished actress, key note presenter, voice over artist and professional voice trainer. Rena holds a Master of Arts degree in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Science degree in Guidance & Counseling from the University of Tulsa and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Education from the University of Arizona. Rena is the author of Voice and the Young Actor, co-editor of Breath in Action, and a former Editor-in-Chief of the Voice & Speech Review, 2009. Her articles have appeared in such periodicals as Dramatics Magazine, Teaching Theatre, Theatre Journal, and Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism. Prior to teaching at OU, Rena taught at the University of Kansas and Oklahoma State University. She also taught high school drama for sixteen years before moving to higher education. Her dedication to teacher training continues each summer as she teaches on the University of Houston’s Master of Arts for drama teachers. She has taught at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and at the Central School in London. Her voice workshops are favorites at Thespian Conferences throughout the US and UK. She has conducted the voice master class for the national Irene Ryan Finalists at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Washington, D.C In 2009, she was named the Julian J. Rothbaum Presidential Professor of Excellence in the Arts. She was named Region 6 Innovative Teacher of the Year in 2013 by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
